China was a major player in WWII, with two important military leaders, Mao Sedong, a Communist, and Chiang Kai-Shek, the Kuomintang party leader. The American volunteer party of planes stationed in china, the Flying Tigers, played a huge part in WWII. The Burma road that went through China supplied troops and supplies to the allies. The Rape of Nanking opened many peoples eyes to the brutality of the war.

China may have been the country with the most suffering in the entire war. Their total war losses included 3 to 4 million military deaths, most out of the allied powers,  about 16 million  civilian deaths, bested only by the Soviet. This means that they lost upward of 20 million lives,  second to the soviet. They lost about 4 percent of their population.

The reason for so much Chinese suffering was mostly due to Japan launching an all out attack on them. this is a video of when japan attacked china.
